Post‑Hurricane Renovations: A Story of Resilience

On September 27th, 2024, Hurricane Helene tore through Western North Carolina, transforming the peaceful Stony Fork Creek into a powerful, rushing river. In the storm’s wake, Stony Creek Cove lost 1,500 square feet of creekside embankment. What could have been pure loss became an opportunity to rebuild stronger and better than ever.

With the expertise of wildland and stream engineers and the artistry of a local landscape designer, the property underwent a remarkable transformation. Giant stone boulders—swept onto the land during the flood—were carefully repurposed into a handcrafted outdoor firepit and a grand stone staircase leading playfully down to the water’s edge. Today, these features stand as both a testament to nature’s power and a celebration of its gifts.
